Frequently Asked Questions

Who will own this?

The 501(c)3 organization, Citizen’s Aquatic Center, LLC will privately own and operate the facility and manage the land associated with the project.

Will this raise property taxes?

No. This project will be fully funded by donations from individuals and corporations which will be used to buy property and build the aquatic center.

Who will benefit from an aquatic center?

The entire community and local school systems would benefit from the aquatic center. Schools such as Oldenburg Academy and area high schools will collaborate to create swim schedules that align with their budgets and number of swimmers for their competitive programs.

We will also explore creating additional swimming opportunities for our local student-athletes, which may include a new USA Swimming and Diving program, incorporation of local summer swim teams, and the introduction of additional competitive swimming lessons.

We are working with local municipalities on our long-term vision and plans.

Finally, we will work with the community to create a structure where adults and children would have the opportunity to use the facility.

How is the city of Batesville involved?

We are working with the city on our long-term vision and plans. With the feasibility report, we expect to receive a financial forecast and impact on the tourism in the city. With hosting events, we know there will be an influx of people to the city and we want to make sure we create a strong relationship in and around the town.

The city itself will not be directly impacted by the introduction of the facility and we want to reiterate that taxes will not be impacted to build or manage the facility. It will be a community owned and operated building with the goal of being self-sufficient and self-sustaining.

How will BCSC, Oldenburg or other schools be involved?

In line with our vision of creating water-safety programming we will work with each school district to meet their needs. While one of the main goals is creating a competition sized pool, we understand that the facility will be filled with learn-to-swim and/or water safety programs throughout the course of the day.

Schools will be given the opportunity, within our offerings and available time slots to create a schedule to help support K-12 classes, water safety and/or competitive swimming and diving teams.
